Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's engagement
could be a long one! A month after the actor slipped a custom-designed diamond
ring on his lady love's finger, he says they aren't rushing to the
altar.
"We actually really, truly have no date,"
Pitt, who is promoting his new gangster flick "Killing Them Softly," said at a
press conference at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday. And they're not
abandoning their previous position that they would like same-sex marriage to be
legalized before they take the plunge. "We're still hoping that we can figure
out marriage equalit
As for why, after seven years and six
kids together, they decided to get engaged, Pitt said it was all about the
timing. "It's just something that makes sense to us," he noted.
Pitt, who was casually dressed for the
event in a grey suit and white T-shirt and sported a goatee, said he's flying
solo at Cannes this year because Jolie, who is getting ready to shoot
"Maleficent," is too busy to attend. "She's actually not here right now," he
said. "She's prepping for a movie she starts very soon."
But she was a frequent topic of
conversation. Pitt was also asked if he and Jolie, who fell in love on the set
of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" when he was still married to Jennifer Aniston, would
costar in another movie. He replied: "Yeah, we'd love to." Although it was
rumored that collaboration would take place in "The Counselor," it now looks
like Cameron Diaz will be playing the part instead.
In Pitt's upcoming crime thriller
"Killing Them Softly," he plays Jackie Cogan, who is a professional enforcer
called in to investigate a heist that went down during a mob-protected poker
game. Ray Liotta also stars and Andrew Dominik directs.
