Raising awareness for World Refugee Day,
Angelina Jolie has recorded a PSA to commembrate the day which takes place on
Wednesday June 20, 2012.
The 30-second video starts with startling
images of refugee's fleeing their homes, then the 37-year-old actress and UNHCR
Special Envoy looks into the camera to say, “Every minute, eight people around
the world are forced to flee their homes due to war and persecution".
"No one chooses to be a refugee," Jolie
adds, “Today, 43 million people worldwide have been displaced. We remember
them."
UNHCR provides life-saving assistance to
nearly 34 million of those in need, and the organization's goal is encourage
others to extend their generosity and support.
Angelina visited Ecuador in April to meet
with refugees, marking her first trip to the area since being appointed Special
Envoy of UNHCR High Commissioner Antonio Guterres.
